Second-hand styling and why I'm giving it a go...

Sustainability is having a moment. And rightly so.

When I first started blogging and started my Youtube channel, I would film haul after haul, and shoot new outfit after new outfit, without a second thought as to where it had come from, and the environmental impact of my shopping behaviour. To be frank, this continued until at least the end of last year, if not beyond that.

As I'm getting older, my taste in fashion is starting to change. I'm less interested in buying all of the latest 'trend' pieces, and more interested in investing in good quality pieces, that will last for longer, have less of a negative impact, and will form something of a capsule wardrobe. I'm not the sort of person who could actually function with just a capsule wardrobe right now, so it's an exercise in curating classic pieces, with the odd (well thought out) trend piece thrown in for good measure.

With that in mind, I thought I would set myself a bit of a challenge this month. In the lead up to Autumn, and through September I bought a lot of new things, getting ready for the change in the weather; quite early, but I love Autumn fashion, and as soon as it started to hit the shops, I couldn't resist.

As I write, it's currently #secondhandseptember and it's got me intrigued. I've never done #secondhandseptember before, but I used to do a fair amount of charity and vintage shopping, and I loved it. Just lately, I've seen that a good friend of mine, Shelley, has been picking up some absolutely amazing finds in various vintage and charity shops across Norwich, as have several other influencers in the area.

So this October, I won't be buying new (unless I need some new tights or workout clothes or something - that's otherwise very grim) and instead I'm going to give thrift shopping a go again - do people still call it that? I'll probably be chomping at the bit to buy some lovely new things come November, but we'll see how it goes.

At this very early stage, I plan to write a weekly post, just diarising how it's going. I've no idea whether it will be remotely interesting, whether I'll have anything at all to show you, or whether I'll even manage to resist the temptation, but I guess it's just a case of watching this space. I suppose I might have some new outfit combinations to share from my existing wardrobe, and I'll share my favourite places, if there any that stand out.

Anyway, I'll leave it there as there's nothing more to say really. Don't mind me while I make a couple of quick orders from my favourite high street stores before the end of September - just kidding... and cringing.

See you at the charity shop? X
